The art and science of racing sailboats is usually viewed as very different disciplines. But when successful high level sailing campaigns are reviewed, the lines between science and art are blurred. Winning on the race course requires people with both skill sets, or at least an appreciation for the value of art or science. When you factor in the unknowns of weather, and the reaction of human temperament during the heat of battle, it is a combination of all skill sets that makes the difference between success or failure.
