No matter what the scope or importance of the issue -- climate change, littering, obesity, poverty – it can likely be traced back to our society’s inclination to work against Nature instead of with it. We are uncomfortable with the very Earth that nurtures us so we try to dominate and tame it and keep Nature at arms’ length. No one will care for something he or she doesn’t feel a connection with so our environment continues to degrade. The Earth doesn’t need us – we need her. Only by understanding that we are part of Island Earth will we heal the damage we have done to the planet and unsure that our species continues to exist.
